Innovative Precast Retaining Wall System Wins PCI Design Award

 

Lansing, MichiganJuly 2011 – The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has selected a major Benesch project as a winner of the 2011 PCI Design Award in the Special Solution category. The winning project was the Innovative Precast Retaining Wall System that Benesch developed for the I-196/Baldwin Street Interchange in Georgetown Township, MI. It was one of 117 high-caliber entries and only 29 winners in various categories.

 

Winning criteria for the Special Solution category of the PCI Design Award includes transportation-related structures such as soundwalls or bridges that have one or more of the following key features: precast concrete bridge approach slabs; precast concrete deck panels; precast concrete footings, abutments, piers, or railings; or the bridge has been moved as a complete structure into its final position.

 

Awards will be presented during a ceremony at the 2011 PCI Annual Convention and National Bridge Conference in October in Salt Lake City, UT. In addition, the project will also be featured in a special issue insert in the fall issue of Aspire magazine. PCI Journal and Ascent magazines will also publish articles on the winning project this fall.
