Central Street Corridor Improvements

Springfield, MA

The Central Street Corridor Improvement project was envisioned by the City of Springfield to provide a gateway roadway leading to Springfield College and the surrounding neighborhood. Benesch is providing roadway reconstruction and realignment design services for the project under its On-Call Contract with the City. The project involves the reconstruction and realignment of multiple streets; conversion of a two-way roadway to one-way use; and two (2) signalized and eight (8) stop-controlleed intersections. Benesch is providing schematic and final design; survey, environmental, and geotechnical engineering; traffic services; right-of-way; and bidding and construction administration. The project was funded through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) associated with city-wide rebuilding efforts following the June 1, 2011 Tornado.
