The City of Pontiac sought to assess its current water system operations and target any deficencies needing improvement. By utilizing hydraulic modeling and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, Benesch aimed to identify how to most efficiently operate the City’s system. Benesch conducted a comprehensive audit of the water distribution network to determine water losses. A field program to uncover leaks was conducted as part of the overall water audit, including a leak survey of the entire 220 miles of pipe within the City. This survey provided valuable information on the condition of the water distribution network. Benesch also mapped the hydrants throughout the city, provided detailed information and pictures for the City’s GIS and updated the water distribution network maps. In conjunction with the City of Pontiac, a valve exercising program was performed with the resulting information becoming part of the City’s GIS.
