As a local greenway, this greenway connects to Bakers Creek Park and the North Carolina Research Campus in downtown Kannapolis. The downtown area of Kannapolis has drastically changed over the past decade. It has transitioned from a small North Carolina mill town, to the site of a regional biotechnology campus. This greenway near the center of town serves as an important bridge between the City’s past and future. In addition, the Eighth Street Greenway is part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a regional trail system that will connect fifteen counties surrounding the Charlotte area in North and South Carolina.
Following the Lumber Yard Branch, this greenway corridor features a pedestrian bridge, culvert crossing, minor stream channel improvements, two at-grade road crossings, landscape improvements, and amenities. Benesch assisted the City of Kannapolis with detailed design, permitting, bidding and construction administration services.
