Fairchild Street Tunnel Replacement

Danville, IL

After 95 years of service, the City of Danville, IL, needed to replace the Fairchild Street subway tunnel. This heavily-used underpass, which serves a diverse mix of residential, commercial and industrial users, is located beneath two active railroads. After completing Phase I feasibility efforts, including a Value Planning study and extensive public outreach, Benesch led Phase II design and construction planning. The $17 million project includes a new bridge overpass including drainage, lighting and aesthetic improvements, as well as pedestrian-friendly sidewalk upgrades and a new bicycle path.
