Loyola University CTA Intersection & Pedestrian Plaza Improvements

Chicago, IL

Sheridan Road at the Loyola University campus CTA Red Line stop accomodates thousands of pedestrians along with high volumes of vehicular and bus traffic every day. This project aimed to successfully alleviate congestion while improving safety with both aesthetics and sustainability in mind. The project included major traffic signal and sidewalk upgrades at the Loyola University CTA Red Line stop. In addition, decorative sidewalk planters with irrigation and ornamental lighting along Sheridan Road were installed. The sidewalk planters were incorporated to act as a natural pedestrian guide, encouraging the use of crosswalks as opposed to crossing Sheridan Road mid-block. Now open to traffic, the transformed intersection and surrounding areas enjoy less congestion and a safer traveling environment for all users.
