This project involved reconstruction of the MacArthur Road Interchange by reconfiguring ramp access to reduce the number of conflict points. This involved removing the close merge/diverge movements on US Route 22 under MacArthur Road and extending the loop ramp acceleration lanes on US Route 22 to encourage safer merging patterns, and improving overall traffic flow of the interchange. The existing overpass carrying MacArthur Road over US Route 22 was replaced to improve the vertical clearance deficiency. Also, the installation of appropriate signing for the new interchange, and replacement of safety appurtenances within the limits of reconstruction were needed. Benesch prepared conceptual (preliminary) plans, specifications and a cost estimate for a design/build letting. Benesch will also provided design review services and consultation during construction of the improved interchange.
