Benesch provided construction engineering services for this $3 million restoration and rehabilitation project. The historic Maple Street Over West Branch Bridge is a 116’ long, Pratt Through Truss, which was built in 1900. Work in the Westfield River was minimized due to its designation as a “Wild and Scenic River” and the presence of species of “Special Concern.” Construction engineering services included: design of temporary abutments; design and crane assisted launching procedures for temporary panel truss bridge and suspended floor framing to provide temporary support, shielding and work platform; and design of dismantling procedure for trusses to be shipped offsite and restored.
