This project involved transforming three vacant buildings in a distressed business district into a new $48 million facility for the MEDIC Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency Headquarters. The re-development and new construction on this 20-acre industrial site included the demolition of three industrial buildings and the extensive renovation of a 121,000 SF warehouse.
Benesch worked closely with the County and the rest of the design team to develop a site that would meet Mecklenburg County Medic’s current and future needs. In order to minimize construction cost, site grading was designed to utilize the existing topography as much as possible. Benesch also designed private/on-site sewer, domestic water and fire protection systems, coordinated with CDOT to assure that improvements made to the adjacent public street, and coordinated with Norfolk Southern Railroad in the acquisition of rail road property and project construction within the railroad right-of-way.
