As part of a six-mile highway widening project for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), Benesch designed two overhead bridges with a unique green element to meet new environmental standards. The project, located near Valley Forge National Historical Park, included infiltration rain gardens to collect and treat stormwater to control runoff volume, rate, temperature, sediment and pollutants. The design was so effective, the PTC adopted the rain garden concept system-wide.
