Springwells Water Treatment Plant

Detroit, MI

The Springwells Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is one of the largest plants in the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department’s (DWSD) system. Therefore, continuous operation is critical. The filters, established in 1958, were in need of rehabilitation. The project involved inspection, design and construction management in addition to numerous civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and I&C improvements. Benesch performed the structural design for the 1958 Filter Building rehabilitation and auxiliary facilities improvements. The design included the structural repair and restoration inside the filters, settled water conduits, stop gate chamber, filter manifolds and the filtered water conduits.
