Union Station Intermodal Center is mixed-use facility providing inter-city and outer-city bus service, excursion rail, parking for cars, and commercial and retail space. The structure’s lower level accommodates commercial space for transit operations, a visitor’s center and retail opportunities. The second level houses office space and the third level houses the Schuylkill Transportation Systems (STS) facility.
Benesch assisted in the analysis of three sites, which included documentation of the size of each site, existing grades, access and utilities. Benesch also performed parking, traffic and transit studies to examine existing supply and demand and future demand based upon land-use changes. The studies also determined parking generation rates, parking access and control, parking circulation and signing.
Additionally, Benesch was responsible for a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit for the new driveway on Center Street, land development plan approval, modular “t-wall” design, post and plank retaining wall design, erosion control and stormwater permitting, as well as coordination with all stakeholders.
