Veterans Memorial Bridge spans the Halifax River along Orange Avenue/Silver Beach Avenue in Daytona Beach, approximately one-half mile south of the International Speedway Boulevard Bridge on US 92. The project begins at City Island Parkway and continues east to South Peninsula Drive. The new, high-level bridge will replace the existing bascule bridge and will meet US Coast Guard and Florida Inland Navigation District guidelines.
Benesch lead the public involvement/social media components for the Veterans Memorial Bridge project, while assisting Volusia County with oversight of the Project Advisory Committee (PAC). The committee’s charge was to provide definitive project guidance to ensure that the community’s voice was heard and that the design reflected their input on design aesthetics: a Veterans memorial, bicycle/pedestrian features, landscaping, lighting, and fishing piers. Benesch coordinated with multiple Veterans groups during numerous public meetings to ensure that these desired and valued features came to fruition. This bridge will stand as a testament to the sacrifices Veterans have made and will serve as a unique recreation area for the community.
Benesch also created and updated the project website with project materials, milestones, events, and contact information.
